The Hat

This simple watch cap, with a cable panel inspired by harpoons and talons, is my eye-catching homage to Captain Ahab’s hat, which was snatched from his head by a sea hawk—a terrible omen.

Supplies

175 yds sport weight yarn.

Sample shown in Neighborhood  Fiber Co. Studio Sport (sport weight; 100% Merino wool; 355 yds/155g per skein) in Edgewood.

Size 3 (3.25mm) 16-inch circular needle and set of 4 dpns, or size needed to obtain gauge

6 stitch markers, one in a second color to mark beg of rnd

Knitting in the round; simple twisted stitch pattern; basic increases and decreases; short rows

Size

One size; fits large child to regular adult. Finished fabric is very stretchy.

Finished Measurements

16-inch circumference at widest point, unstretched; 10 inches deep

Gauge

24 sts and 36 rnds = 4 inches in St st. To save time, take time to check gauge.
