The Try-Works

A tailored, cabled cardigan, with motifs based on the curling smoke of the try-works, the
apparatus on the whaling ship that renders the whale’s blubber into oil.

Sizes 32 (36, 40, 44, 48, 52)-inch bust circumference. Cardigan is meant to fit with 2 to 4
inches of positive ease.

Supplies

1150 (1325, 1475, 1650, 1825, 2075) yds worsted weight yarn

Sample was worked in Briar Rose Fibers Abundance (worsted weight; 100% corriedale
wool; approximately 750 yds/456g per skein) in #8306 Blue/Purple/Black

Size 9 (5.5mm) 29-inch and 16-inch circular needles and set of 4 dpns, or size needed to
obtain gauge

Cable needle

10 stitch markers, one in a color different from the others for beg of rnd

Yarn needle

8 buttons, approximately ¾ inch in diameter

Sewing needle and thread to attach buttons
